HOMELESS CHaLLENGE

Welcome to one of the best challenges out there... the "HOMELESS CHaLLENGE".

[CREDIT MUST BE GIVEN: ..... A link directly to this challenge ( which should begin with: http://sims4challengesrules.blogspot.com ) must be displayed on any page you post this... even in a Youtube description. (since I have reformatted, tweaked, added Difficulty Levels to this challenge, + changed/added the point system, etc., thereby creating this new version of the Challenge).]

*********************************
GOAL:
*********************************

Get 20,000 while keeping needs up enough to max the fishing skill.

*********************************
 STARTING OUT:
*********************************

Life span must be set to normal.  Start of with one  Young Adult Sim.  Choose any traits you want; but the aspiration has to be Nature with a sub-category being The Angling Ace.

MOVING IN:
  • You can choose any lot you want.
  • You will have money left over.  So, spend it all on trees, terrain paint, flowers, and bushes. You may not have any money left when you are finish.
  • You may not add a garden area (box), any type of seat, beds, stoves, grills, and sinks.

*********************************
HOMELESS CHALLENGE

THE RULES :
*********************************

* Tip" most neighborhoods have areas with benches, grills, and fishing areas.  Use these to aid in your survival.

(Update/Correction): The word "lot" was supposed to be "neighborhood", and has now been corrected in the rules etc. - For example: "you are not allowed to leave the lot", was supposed to read "you are not allowed to leave the neighborhood".)

  • Lifespan must be set to "normal" (default).
  • Aging must be on.
  • They must start as an Young Adult.

* You may use the resetSim cheat if your Sim gets "stuck" in an interaction or somewhere around town
-Use Of Grill - you may only grill if you have at least 1 fish in your inventory at the time of grilling. You must sell 1 fish as soon as possible after every time you've eaten from the grill (Also, you may eat grilled food from other Sims, and you won't need to sell fish when that happens.):
* You are not allowed to leave the neighborhood you choose during the duration of the challenge. {Please Note: Only those attempting Legendary difficulty are allowed to leave the neighborhood. Difficulty levels are defined below.}
* You may buy small objects that can be easily carried.
* You do NOT have to pay bills (What difference does it make?)
* No jobs! You may earn money any other way you can think of (for example: painting).
* You may grow vegetation on your property. If for some reason you are able to get a cow plant seed, you may only sell it, do NOT plant it.
* Dumpster diving is allowed.
* No Mods (for example: CC such as the buyable pond, however, clothing cc is fine., a phone mod, like the one mentioned below, is fine.)
* No phone (Sims use their phone to browse the internet, play games etc., so if you see this action it must be cancel immediately. (side note: If you have a mod to stop the action, that's o.k, and it will be the only mod allowed in this challenge. Here's one: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=536411 )
* You may not stay over at friends house, but you can still try to make some friends since you are able to visit!
* You may not move in with anyone.-(reason should be obvious).
* You can use reward points except for : No steel bladder, Antiseptic, Hardly Hungry, Never Weary, Always welcome, Moodlet Solver, Potion of youth.

---> Understanding "Fish In Your Inventory" - Simply think of the fish in your inventory as a symbol/representation telling you when cooking on the grill is allowed (or not). It really isn't specifically meaning cooking fish. It just gives (or takes away) permission to grill any type of "grill-able" food, depending on having, or not having, fish left in your inventory.
(Please keep in mind, since this a challenge (not actually part of the game), and no rules can be set in the actual game, this kind of thing has to be done, to compensate, in order for the challenge to work properly.) VERY IMPORTANT: As New Expansion Packs, Updates, Etc. Are Released, These Rules May Make Less Sense Due To The Changes, Additions, Or Subtractions Made To The Game. Due To This Fact, You'll Need To Rely More And More On Common Sense To Help Guide What Should And Shouldn't Be Allowed or Not Allowed In This Challenge In Order To Keep In Line With The General Spirit Of The Challenge.
        *********************************
         FINISHING THE CHALLENGE (Goals):
        *********************************
The challenge is over when: ( for Novice + Normal difficulty levels )
        • you have saved 20,000 simoleons
        • you must max out the fishing skill
        • as long as its before your Sim dies
          *********************************
           DIFFICULTY LEVELS:
          *********************************
Novice - You don't even have to finish the fishing skill on this level. You may also use the "Always Welcome" reward potion. (The reward potion penalty (below) does NOT pertain to those playing this this way.)
Normal - Follow the regular rules (given at the top)
          {** Advanced Levels (seen Below)!!! **}
Specialist - Use no reward points. "Become Hooked" in The Angling Ace fishing aspiration. Finish whole challenge before becoming an Elder.

Only those attempting "Legendary" difficulty are allowed to leave the neighborhood. --->This will allow you alone to complete Achieve the entire Angling Ace fishing aspiration.
          *********************************
            SCORING:
          *********************************

100 - every time your Sim has a positive emotion
-10 - each reward potion used.  ( You didn't think I was going to let you use them at no cost, did you?) ( NOTE: doesn't apply to the "Novice" difficulty level)

          *********************************

Love this challenge! I'm working on mine, Legendary. I'm kind of losing, though. I'm on the last stage of the aspiration, but I only have about 8,000 simoleans.

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

Glad you're giving this challenge a try, good luck on legendary! I designed it to be extra tough so if somebody beats it they can honestly feel like a legend of this challenge.

Hint: It may take more than 1 try to become a "Legend", so don't feel bad, just try again... just more focused.

I'm playing this challenge right now. I did change one rule though... instead of "never leave the neighbourhood" I went with my sim to the park and play with the rule "never leave the park". Escept from start of game I never see the home lot. I don't know it it's easier or not, but I really enjoy it so far. Great challenge! :D

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

Sounds pretty interesting. Maybe I'll try playing it like that myself next time. Anybody else have a unique way of playing this challenge (tell us here in the comments)? Glad you played it, Foxears.

About to start this challenge and I want to make sure I'm understanding the rules correctly. Can my sim visit public areas like libraries/gyms/etc.?

        Unknown said...

went ahead and started..too excited to wait so i hope I'm doing it right, have a sim that is entirely living on the semiurban sidewalks of simville...

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Sorry For The delay,

Thank You for giving this challenge a try! I hope its going good so far.

        As for your question....

Above the section named "Rules" it says... * Tip "most neighborhoods have areas with benches, grills, and fishing areas. Use these to aid in your survival."

.....Which means you should have everything needed to beat this challenge,,,,right inside of your neighborhood.

Also, in the section named "Rules" it says... "You are not allowed to leave the neighborhood you choose during the duration of the challenge. {Please Note: Only those attempting Legendary difficulty are allowed to leave the neighborhood. Difficulty levels are defined below.}"

.....Which means that if you're attempting the "Legendary" difficulty level, then leaving the neighborhood is definitely allowed.

Another thing could be that (depending on the neighborhood you chose ), your neighborhood might actually includle libraries/gyms/etc...

....So that would make it o.k. too.

        Thans Again.

awesome! just wanted to make sure, my neighborhood has a gym, library, nightclub and museum and I basically live on the public lots, barely go back to my main lot. I was wondering...would like to get my homeless sim some nookie, would a tent count as something I could buy that is easy to carry?

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

Sure. I think a tent would be o.k. for this challenge. Also, living on the public lots in a town like that is perfectly fine too, since you would still be without a home and needing to use the community amenities for basically all your Sim's needs.

Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

I've started this on my channel and now have about $500. Can I use some of my funds to purchase a toilet?
        Thanks :)

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

Hi, I'm glad to see that you chose to play this challenge, and even put it on your channel. I appreciate that.

As far as your question goes, in the section above, labled "RULES" (which states what you're allowed to do in this challenge), the 6th rule down says "You may buy small objects that can be easily carried."

Remember the spirit of the challenge, you're supposed to be doing what homeless people do to survive. I've never heard of a homeless person with their own toilet (at least, not one they purchased themselves, lol).

        Thanks Again.

        Lori said...

Please be clear to me on this, the thing is you can't even cook Fish on the grill until you are a level 5 in the cooking skill, so how do we even cook fish unless you mean we can cook anything on the grill as long as we have one fish in our inventory Please be clear on this rule thank you *use of grill- you may only grill if you have at least 1 fish in your inventory at the time of grilling. You must sell 1 fish as soon as possible after every time you've eaten from the grill (Also, you may eat grilled food from other Sims, and you won't need to sell fish when that happens.)

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi Lori,

Thank you for your question. You've made me realized how confusing that particular rule could be. I appreciate it sincerely.

So I'm going to try to clarify it in this answer as well as in the rules above.

        Answer:

Simply think of the fish in your inventory as a symbol/representation telling you when cooking on the grill is allowed (or not). It really isn't specifically meaning cooking fish. It just gives (or takes away) permission to grill any type of "grill-able" food, depending on having, or not having, fish left in your inventory.

(Please keep in mind, since this a challenge only, and no rules can be set in the actual game, this kind of thing has to be done in order for the challenge to work.)

        Thanks again,
Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

Play it by living in your neighbours back garden.

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

In response to (which was accidently deleted)....

{so the rules are no leaving the nabourhood u can only cook on a grill if u have a fish u can only buy small carry able objects no house no job
        ----

way to win get 20,000 somolions get max fishing skill before your sim dies

        are u aloud to have a family though}

        Hi,

        (Ans. #1)

Sure, If you wanna simplify it for yourself, that's o.k.

However, you forgot about: No Mods, No jobs, No staying over at friends house .

...and, what about the reward points, the bills, Dumpster diving, phone use, etc.?

Alot of Simmers like the details (so to those that do... simply stick to the rules in the post above.)

        (Ans. #2)

Sure, a family is allowed if you can find a way to manage them and finish the challenge too. Yes, then that's definitely o.k., since homeless families are definitely part of society too.

        Thanks again,
and Good luck with the challenge.

please how do you add challenges to your game, can someone send a link

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi,

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately the makers of the Sims never made it possible to add challenges to the game. I wish they had; that would've made playing challenges (even the ones I have here on this blog) a lot more convenient.

        Thanks again,
and Good luck with the challenge.

        Unknown said...

Just so I have it right, when you say you're not allowed to leave the neighborhood, do you mean the area right there within your reach without going through a loading screen or, for instance, the neighborhood/world of Willow Creek?

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi Rachel,

Well said! That sounds exactly right. As long as you don't do anything to exit the neighborhood; like you said. For example, you can even sleep on a bench at the neighborhood park, or even use the community gym to shower, etc.. Many possibilities exist.

        Thanks again,
Good luck with the rest of the challenge.
and Good luck with the challenge.

        Anonymous said...

I started this challenge and got hooked lol quite difficult as the game seems to know you're doing the challenge ie. All the showers in the gym conveniently break down..or the book you need ie. Handiness cannot be found in the library lol so it is deffo s challenge but great fun thanks!

        Unknown said...

I have kind of done the same. I normally just stay in my park as there's no point in going back to my main lot as there is nothing of any use there

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Thanks, .....I think.

By the way, those things happening, in my opinion, simply reminds me of real life in a way. So I guess it makes Sims 4 even more realistic than we all knew.... doesn't it? (not saying in real life stuff like that would happen so often though).

Anyways, Good luck with the rest of the challenge.
        I really appreciate your comment.

        Wondering,

Just started, started in the lot in middle nowhere from the get together pack, there are no grills in the neighbourhood (that ive found anywho...) there is a cafe, can we buy food there or is that a no no, homeless people do buy food

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi,

Since this challenge was created before certain expansion packs were released, certain things couldn't possibly be forseen. For this reason, anyone playing these challenges may have to improvise a little according to what the situation may be.

So please buy a grill to compensate for the lack of it in the new town, but only after thoroughly checking for one around the town first.

Remember, you really should be trying to stick to the rules as closely as you possibly can. Having said that, I really can understand if new expansion packs force challenge players to make adjustments.

        Thanks for asking,
and good luck with the rest of the challenge.

what counts as a small item that I can carry? does a ten count? a bonfire? things I can put into my inventory or something else, specifically?

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi,

This is actually a pretty easy one. I appreciate the question.

Simply put, if you can imagine a homeless person being able to carry a particular item on them (like in a long coat), or if they should be able to reasonably fit that item in a shopping cart, then that item is allowed.

A desk, a couch, or a bed, for example,(by this standard) would Not be allowed.

*** To answer your question specifically, a tent, since it's foldable, is o.k, and a bonfire is also allowed.

By the way, sleeping isn't supposed to be convenient or comfortable when one is homeless.

So, a hammock is Not allowed, but a bench is allowed (is an exception since homeless sleeping on benches is very well known.

        Thanks for again asking,
and good luck with the rest of the challenge

        Unknown said...

Am I able to buy like a violin so I can make tips and that it is the smallest instrument and you can make tips? My sim could also play the violin in the nightclubs in order to reach level 4 and then buy a violin since you can't play for tips until level 4.
Also, can I sell jets and stuff found in dumpster diving and stuff I steal from people when I visit?
        Thanks for the awesome challenge!

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi MaddySquid,

        Yes, it's O.K to buy a violin.

Yes, It's a great small instrument to make tips with. For further clarity, here's what the rules say (so again, yes, you are correct... in this particular case)... "if you can imagine a homeless person being able to carry a particular item on them (like in a long coat), or if they should be able to reasonably fit that item in a shopping cart, then that item is allowed. A desk, a couch, or a bed, for example, (by this standard) would NOT be allowed. A tent, since it's foldable, is o.k, and a bonfire is also allowed."

I'm glad to hear how it's going, because it seems like your having fun withe the challenge so far.

        Thanks for again asking,
and good luck with the rest of the challenge.

        violetlass said...

Started this challenge, and with some of the new packs.
Since there are no toilets, and get together came out with bushes that can be used and "fertilized" to relieve bladder, would they count against or would they be acceptable. Also would a campfire be good for your homeless sims lot, as it is used like a grill?
With the no chairs can you buy the camping chair that is a loveseat to use to "nap on?" and it folds up. But sleeping in a tent can be good as it is considered homeless because many homeless use tent.
I did make a booboo and bought a tree that came with large hanging lights but they counted as electric. Removed tree replaced with tree without lights. Did make a lot with ruins to look like a house that only has its base wall to fit a person who would live at an abandoned lot.

        DecorateCheapskate.com said...

        Hi,

I appreciate the question. This is actually a pretty easy one.

Simply put, if you can imagine a homeless person being able to carry a particular item on them in a long coat (like in candles, etc.), or if they should be able to reasonably fit that item in a shopping cart, then that item is allowed.

-A desk, a couch, or a bed, for example, (by this standard) would Not be allowed.

-Also, Luxury Items, and/or electronics, like phones, are not allowed.

*** To answer your question specifically, a tent and/or camping chair, since they are foldable, are o.k, and a campfire/bonfire is also allowed.

Just keep a lookout for other homeless that may get jealous though..... lol.

So, a hammock is Not allowed, but a bench is allowed (is an exception since homeless sleeping on benches is very well known).

Keep in mind though, life really isn't supposed to be convenient or comfortable when one is homeless, so please try not to overdue anything.

BTW, I'm glad to see you corrected the hanging lights situation.

Also, any added realism such as the "ruins" will only enhance the enjoyment of this challenge, so great job so far.

        Thanks for again asking,
and good luck with the rest of the challenge
